Evgeni Malkin To Undergo Knee Surgery; Will Rehab For Six Months

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced today that Evgeni Malkin will need six months of rehab after he goes under the knife on Thursday. The star forward will have surgery to repair the torn MCL and the torn ACL in his right knee.

The official announcement from the team says that he’ll be ready for training camp next season.

Malkin suffered the injury on Friday against Buffalo when he went hard into the boards with Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers. Since that injury, the Penguins have lost two straight games, in contrast to another recent stretch without Malkin where the team won nine of ten.

Just so we’re on the same page, this isn’t necessarily new news. We knew the day after the injury that Malkin was going to need surgery. Now, we know the particulars of that surgery.
