Gary Bettman is one hell of a man. In the face of a threat from one of it’s biggest sponsors -- a sponsor that has its name attached to the arena in largest market in the sport, in fact -- the NHL commissioner basically told them to buzz off. (Can’t you picture Gary Bettman using the phrase “buzz off”?)
Gary Bettman Doesn’t Seem To Care If Air Canada Pulls Its NHL Sponsorship
↵Via NHL.com:
↵↵“Air Canada is a great brand, as is the National Hockey League,” said Bettman. “And if they decide that they need to do other things with their sponsorship dollars, that is their prerogative, just that it is the prerogative of our clubs that fly on Air Canada to make other arrangements if they don’t think Air Canada is not giving them the appropriate level of service.”
↵↵Yes, that’s the commissioner of the NHL turning a threat from Air Canada to pull its sponsorship into a joke about the quality of airline service. Connecting with the common man or something, right?
