Mike Knuble had scored over 250 goals in his NHL career, and most of those have come from what's become known as his office, right in front of the net.
Blackhawks Vs. Capitals: Vintage Mike Knuble Goals Lifts Caps To 7th Straight Win
On Sunday afternoon in Washington, it was textbook, vintage Knuble who move from his backhand to his forehand and around Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Corey Crawford to give the Capitals a 4-3 overtime victory.
It was the seventh straight win for the Caps, who have launched themselves five points over the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Southeast Division during this stretch. They've also pulled within just one point of the Philadelphia Flyers for first place in the Eastern Conference, a spot which has certainly felt like home for the Caps in recent years.
The Blackhawks didn't go down without a fight. Brooks Laich of the Caps put his team up a goal about six minutes into the third period, and with time winding down in regulation and Marcus Johansson in the penalty box, Chicago took advantage. Duncan Keith threw the puck off the end boards from the point, where it ejected out the other side of the net. It was thrown out in front, and from the side, Jonathan Toews poked it by Braden Holtby to even the score.
It ultimately failed to propel the ‘Hawks to a victory, but in the midst of a slight losing skid where they’ve lost three of four, they’ll accept the point and move on.
