VIDEO: Shawn Thornton Takes Skate To Face, Gets Chirped At By Blackhawks Bench

Shawn Thornton had a rough night on Tuesday. In the second period against the Chicago Blackhawks, the Bruins forward took the skate of Fernando Pisani right to the face.

Luckily, it missed his eye.

And luckily, he didn’t know exactly which player on the Blackhawks bench chirped him as he skated by with blood pouring out of his face, or that really could’ve been ugly.

The post-game quotes from Thornton, via ESPN Boston:

“Something was said,” Thornton said. “Obviously I can’t swear when I talk to [the media]. There was some stuff said that I’m not happy about. I’m going to find out who it was and I will deal with it in my own way.”

“[Referee Don VanMassenhoven] heard it,” Thornton said. “He didn’t know who it was, either. He actually yelled at their bench. I appreciate it. Those guys on their team chirp a lot. I don’t know if it is right when someone’s face is half across the other side of their face, but it’s a tough game and people have to live with their actions. If you guys ever find out who it is, don’t be afraid to send me a Christmas card.”

I can't say I'm personally the biggest Shawn Thornton or Boston Bruins fan in the world, but that's just rather awesome all around. "I'm going to find out and deal with it" makes you want these teams to face off in the Cup Final, doesn't it?

For the record, Thornton is fine and says he hopes to be in the lineup on Thursday when the Bruins host the Maple Leafs.
