Last week in Philadelphia, the Pittsburgh Penguins waltzed in to Wells Fargo Center and played a shutdown defensive game that stifled the first-place Flyers and brought them closer to first place in the Atlantic Division. In the final game of the season series shifted across the state to Consol Energy Center, however, the Pens couldn't repeat the feat.
Flyers Vs. Penguins: Sergei Bobrovsky Great, Philly Holds Off Pittsburgh
Sergei Bobrovsky was huge for the Flyers, making 25 saves as Philly rolled to a 5-2 victory. Ville Leino scored two goals in the third period as the Flyers line of he, Scott Hartnell and Danny Briere rebounded from some tough recent efforts to propel their team.
The win brings them closer to clinching the Atlantic after four months of owning first place, while it essentially locks Pittsburgh in the East’s fourth spot. The Flyers only need six points of a possible 12 remaining to clinch the division, and that’s if the Penguins win the rest of their games.
