The Philadelphia Flyers are still in first place in the Eastern Conference, but if they can't start playing well soon, that position will fade away. After dropping three straight to bubble teams like Buffalo and Toronto and a nothing team like Ottawa, fans in Philly were hoping that the message was sent and that a game against a fierce rival on Sunday would be all the team needed to wake up.
Flyers Vs. Rangers: Ryan Callahan Drops 4 Goals As N.Y. Stomps Philly, 7-0
It wasn't, largely thanks to Ryan Callahan's four goals, as the Rangers embarrassed the Flyers, 7-0, at Madison Square Garden. It was the most lopsided score of the year for either club, and when captain Mike Richards tried to snap his club out of it with a fight against known foe Brandon Dubinsky, even that didn't go Philly's way.
That's how the day went for Philadelphia. Following that fight, the Rangers would add two more goals from Callahan, two from Matt Zuccarello and one from Artem Anisimov. Extra point is good.
The Rangers are now off until Wednesday when they fly west to take on the Anaheim Ducks, while the Flyers hope the last place Oilers are the right medicine when they host Edmonton on Tuesday night.
