It's been a few years since the Washington Capitals have had a real threat in the Southeast Division, but now it's official: the Tampa Bay Lightning are serious competition. Bruce Boudreau tried to take that to another level on Monday when he made some disparaging remarks about Steve Downie and Steven Stamkos of the Bolts.
Steven Stamkos, Steve Downie ‘Dive Every Two Seconds,’ Says Bruce Boudreau
↵↵“With Steve Downie, if I were a referee I would never give a call when he’s out on the ice,” Boudreau said. “Stamkos, he dives every two seconds. Downie, he dives every two seconds, so you see that and you start to get a little hatred on.”
↵↵Downie has a bit of that reputation, for sure, but Stamkos isn’t really of that mold. This is obviously just Boudreau trying to get an upper hand with the officials or in the emotional part of the game or whatever. It’s really a baseless accusation, but that doesn’t mean it’s any less awesome or that it makes the budding rivalry between the clubs any less entertaining.
