When Max Pacioretty’s head hit the glass last night at Bell Centre, most of us thought the worst. Crumpled on the ice, Pacioretty’s injuries looked horrible and scary and any other words of that sort that you want to use to describe them.
Max Pacioretty Suffered ‘Severe Concussion,’ Fractured Vertebrae
While he’s still seriously hurt, we’re glad to pass along the news that it’s not as bad as our worst fears led us to believe. Canadiens coach Jacques Martin gave an update on his condition after practice today.
“Max Pacioretty has a severe concussion, as well as a fracture of the fourth cervical vertebrae, but it’s not displaced,” he said in a statement released by the team. “Max will remain at the hospital for further observation. There will be no other prognosis for the time being, but he will obviously be out indefinitely. The most important thing for our organization right now is Max’s recovery.”
There’s no word just yet on what discipline, if any, Chara will receive. The Bruins Blog reports that Chara was on the ice at practice, which likely means that his 12 p.m. phone hearing with the NHL has been completed. We’ll know soon enough if the Bruins will lose Chara for any period of time.
