The Los Angeles Kings are trying to keep afloat in the Western Conference playoff race against the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday night. Game time is 7:30 pm Eastern.

    Kings Vs. Red Wings Score: Two Kings Goals Give Them 2-1 Lead After Two Periods

    After struggling to find any offensive flow in the first period, the Los Angeles Kings have two goals in the second period to give them a 2-1 lead after two periods in Detroit. Anze Kopitar scored his fourth goal against the Red Wings this season, 7:50 into the second period, to tie the game at one. His goal was assisted by Dustin Penner and Justin Williams. Dustin Brown broke the tie on the powerplay seven minutes later. Alec Martinex had the lone assist on the Brown goal.

    After being outshot 11-3 in the first period, the Kings outshot the Red Wings 14-10 in the second period and are now only being outshot 21-17 through two periods in the game. Dustin Penner leads all players in the game with four shots on goal and has a total of six attempted shots, which is tied with Detroit’s Nicklas Lidstrom.

    Kings Vs. Red Wings Score: Darren Helm Scores Lone Goal To Give Red Wings 1-0 Lead

    Through the three games between these two teams this season, there has been a minimum of five combined goals in each of the games. Through one period tonight, there has only been one goal and that has come off the stick of Darren Helm. Helm scored at the six minute mark of the first period to give the Red Wings a 1-0 lead after twenty minutes. His goal was assisted by Justin Abdelkader and Kris Draper.

    The Red Wings are controlling the offense in the first period. Along with the 1-0 lead on the scoreboard, they are outshooting the Kings 11-3 through the first period. Nicklas Lidstrom leads the Red Wings with three shots in the period while three other players has two shots on goal. For the Kings, only three players have registered a shot. The Red Wings have a total of 21 shots toward the net, which is a combined total of the shots on goal, blocked shots, and missed shots, while the Kings only have eight shots toward the net.
