The Vancouver Canucks are the best team in the NHL this year.
Kings Vs. Canucks: Vancouver Clinches President’s Trophy For First Time In Team History
Thanks to their win on Thursday night over the Los Angeles Kings, they'll have home-ice advantage throughout the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Coming into the night, their magic number to win the President's Trophy was four, but thanks to Philadelphia's loss to Atlanta earlier in the night, all the Canucks needed was a win.
This was all a foregone conclusion, though. We’ve essentially assumed this for a few months now, but for the team on the losing end of last night’s game, there’s a lot less certainty. Jon Quick made 32 saves for the Kings, but that wasn’t enough to keep them in the game. The Kings sit in the fifth spot in the Western Conference still, but there are no assurances that a playoff spot is in their future.
It’s kind of crazy how the top seed in the West can be so sure, but literally every other team, save San Jose and Detroit, are so in question. It’s a weird year out West.
