The goal was scored by Kyle Turris at the 2:42 mark of the first period for the only goal of the game thus far. Turris snuck into the slot behind Detroit’s Johan Franzen and puts the puck past goaltender Jimmy Howard.

The uncharacteristic part of the Red Wings’ game thus far is the fact that they have take four penalties thus far in the game. The Coyotes have had four powerplay chances thus far in the game, including a five on three opportunity that last 1:30 in the period. The Red Wings have done a good job thus far in the game to keep the Coyotes’ chances on the powerplay fairly limited.
The Coyotes have outshot the Red Wings in the first period by a margin of 11-9 and Jimmy Howard has made 10 of those saves thus far. Phoenix’s Ilya Bryzgalov has made all nine saves he’s faced in the game.
