So much for that uncharacteristic game the Red Wings were playing in the first period. Detroit found the back of the net three times in the second period to give some life to the Joe Louis Arena and now have a 3-1 lead over the Coyotes after two periods.
Coyotes Vs. Red Wings: Detroit Scores Three Goals In Second, Leads 3-1
The first Red Wings goal came from Pavel Datsyuk 7:38 into the second period. Datsyuk circled around the back of the net and had Ilya Bryzgalov fooled as he thought the puck was coming back on the glove side. This led to Datsyuk having a wide open net and he capitalized.
The second Red Wings goal came four minutes later on a fairly nice setup play by Johan Franzen. Franzen put the puck in on Ilya Bryzgalov just past the blue line while using the Coyotes defenseman as a screen and shooting the puck between his legs.
The final Red Wings goal of the period came on the power play for the Red Wings as Brian Rafalski had a long slapshot find the back of the net. Bryzgalov was being screened in front of the net by Dan Cleary, but the puck was never deflected by anyone and find space on the blocker side.
The Red Wings found their offensive legs in the second period, outshooting the Coyotes 17-7 in the period. Detroit is now outshooting Phoenix 26-18 in the game. The Red Wings also were more disciplined in the period with only one penalty in the period after taking four in the first. The Coyotes gave the Red Wings two powerplay opportunities in the period and Detroit capitalized on one of those chances.
