Brian Gionta scored all of the goals and Carey Price made all of the saves to give the Montreal Canadiens a road win over the Boston Bruins.
Canadiens Vs. Bruins, Game 1: Montreal Takes First Game On Backs Of Gionta And Price
Gionta’s first goal came at the 2:42 mark of the first period from a cross ice pass by Scott Gomez. Gionta happened to be relatively in front of the net and caught Boston’s Tim Thomas out of position on the first goal. Gionta’s second goal came late in the third period on pretty much the same play for Gionta, Gomez fed him a nice pass and he beat Tim Thomas.
Carey Price found his playoff legs early, making 31 saves in the game for his third career playoff shutout. Price made some impressive saves in the game, including making 18 saves in the second period. Many Montreal fans gave him flack for his play in the playoffs last year and he was eventually replaced by Jaroslav Halak. This year, he becomes the hero.
The Bruins and Canadiens will face off on Saturday night in what could very well be a must win game for the Bruins. For more information on this game, please visit our Bruins site, Stanley Cup of Chowder, and our Canadiens site, Habs Eyes On The Prize.
