On Friday night, the Tampa Bay Lightning appear intent on exacting a measure of revenge on the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Pens cruised to a 3-0 win in Game 1 of the opening round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, but in the first period of Game 2, it was the Lightning who stormed to a 3-0 lead.
The Lightning struck early. 2:02 into the game, Eric Brewer snuck the puck past Pittsburgh goalie Marc Andre Fleury to score the game’s opening goal, with assists going to Simon Gagne and Victor Hedman. A few minutes later, Vincent Lecavalier followed up with a power play goal with assists from Gagne and Martin St. Louis. And as time wound down in the period, Nate Thompson added a third Tampa Bay goal.
