The Tampa Bay Lightning overcame a slow start to enter the first intermission of Game 6 tied at one with the Pittsburgh Penguins. They will need to keep up that late surge for the next two periods if they hope to stave off elimination and force a Game 7.
Penguins Vs. Lightning Score: Tampa Bay Evens Score Late In 1st Period
The Penguins took a 1-0 lead at 8:23 in the first period on a costly Dwayne Roloson error. The puck was dumped behind the Lightning's net so Roloson attempted to get it to the boards. However, Pittsburgh's Maxime Talbot intercepted the puck and passed it to an oncoming Pascal Dupuis, who shot a 19-foot wrister past Roloson for the lead.
The Lightning didn't have a shot on net until they had a 5-on-4 advantage following an Alexei Kovalev hooking penalty. Eric Brewer picked the first one up at 9:38 in the period. However, the Lightning started to apply pressure late in the period and scored the equalizer at 16:36. With the puck flying around the Penguins' net, defenseman Zbynek Michalek and goalie Marc-Andre Fleury fell flat to the ice, allowing Teddy Purcell to put the puck in the net.
