The San Jose Sharks collected a second 2-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings when they took a 2-0 series lead on Sunday afternoon. Detroit cut a 2-0 deficit in the third to one goal, but it proved too little too late.
Red Wings Vs. Sharks Final Score: Niclas Wallin’s Goal Gives San Jose 2-1 Victroy
At 1:39 in the third period, Niclas Wallin received the puck from Ryan Clowe on the opposite side of the ice, crossed the blue line and snapped off a wristshot from 38 feet out. It bounced off of Jimmy Howard's glove and then facemask before finding its way into the back of the net.
The game turned into an evenly-matched offensive contest, as the teams combined for 24 shots in the period (13-11 in favor of Detroit). Detroit finally put a goal on the board at 13:58 in the period. They had a power play after the Shark's Devin Setoguchi received two minutes for slashing Johan Franzen. With the man advantage, Henrik Zetterberg received the puck in front of Antti Niemi and snapped a shot off from about 30 feet away.
Niemi was the first star of the game, making 33 saves on 34 shots.
The series shifts to Detroit on Wednesday, May 4, for Game 3. Maybe Detroit’s offense will show up on the return home.
