Hey, so you'll never believe this, but the only reason the Philadelphia Flyers and Boston Bruins are still tied at 2-2 after two periods in Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals is a goaltender.
Bruins Vs. Flyers, Game 2: Sergei Bobrovsky In After Brian Boucher Injury; Score Tied, 1-1
A Flyers goaltender.
No, it's not Brian Boucher, the starter who left the game midway through the second after taking a shot off what appeared to be the left hand. Instead, it was the fantastic play of Sergei Bobrosky in the latter part of the second period that kept the Flyers in the contest. Bobrovsky made six saves in relief of Boucher, including several acrobatic ones.
James van Riemsdyk clearly unlocked a few new cheat codes before this one. He has both Flyers goals and came close to a hat trick on more than one occasion in the second period. If not for more great goaltending by Tim Thomas at the other end, JvR would likely have that trick. Most notably, he made a giant save on a van Riemsdyk pass across the crease, stoning the shot from Nikolay Zherdev.
It’s still 2-2 as we enter the third period. Hold on to your hats.
