The Sports Emmy Awards were held on Monday night in New York City, and hockey came out on top in two categories.

Emrick, of course, is also the voice of the NHL on VERSUS, and he also moonlights as the voice of the New Jersey Devils on MSG Network.
Some think he’s over the top or that he includes too much color in his delivery -- “waffleboarded it away” or the constant discussion of the player’s hometown -- but he’s a man who’s risen to the position as the league’s top voice for a reason. He definitely brings a certain level of excitement to a broadcast.
All in all, the NHL’s new/old partner, NBC, took home nine Sports Emmys, while television ESPN, the suitor they shunned a few weeks back, took home only five.
