Mark Recchi To Retire If Boston Bruins Win Stanley Cup

Mark Recchi has had a pretty remarkable NHL career. He's played for seven different teams across 22 NHL seasons, he's won two Stanley Cups, and now, he's in a position to win a third at age 43 with the Boston Bruins.

If that happens, Recchi might just finally call it a career. As he told the assembled media last week after winning Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Tampa Bay Lightning:

↵↵Well we’ll see. I mean obviously we’ll see, but I mean I’m getting up there. But it’s been, this is about the Boston Bruins right now and what the guys have done. It’s been a fun year for me to really be, this is what I came back for. I’m proud to say I’ve played with these guys and they have really sucked it up through out the year and stay focused so it’s great.

↵↵Recchi has definitely lost a step as these playoffs have worn on. He hasn’t scored a goal since Game 2 of the Semifinals against Philadelphia, and if he can’t contribute offensively, he’s not much use despite his wealth of experience. Another Stanley Cup and a ride into the sunset would be a fitting end to a great career.
