Until the first period of tonight's Game 4 against the Philadelphia Flyers, the Boston Bruins had yet to score a five-on-four power play goal in the 2011 postseason.
Flyers Vs. Bruins, Game 4 Score: Boston Capitalizes On Power Play, Leads 1-0 After One Period
With Dan Carcillo in the box for cross-checking at the 12 minute mark, Milan Lucic poked home a loose puck in front of Flyers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. The Flyers have been poor in defensive coverage at point-blank range in front of their own net all series, and this time, it led to a 1-0 deficit.
The Bruins have seemed a step faster than their opponent for just about the entire series, and through 20 minutes in Game 4, nothing has changed. They outshot Philadelphia 13 to six in the period and just seem a cut above them overall.
That said, the Flyers have a bit of a break as the second period begins. Zdeno Chara took a bit of an undisciplined penalty late in the third, giving in to the advances of Scott Hartnell in front of the net. Chara threw several punches at Hartnell and while the Flyer went off for two minutes, Chara picked up a four minute double minor for roughing.
There are 3:50 left on that double minor as the second period begins, and considering he’s their best and perhaps most important player, the Flyers have a big opportunity to even things up sooner rather than later.
