In their glory days, the Florida Panthers didn't wear any of this weird light blue stuff. Not that red is a particularly original color in the NHL or anything, but there was something about the red and white jerseys the team wore in the early 90s that screamed unique.
Florida Panthers Going Back To Red Jerseys?
Maybe it was the yellow accents, or perhaps it’s just the awesome logo. All I know is that in 1998, when the Panthers introduced a dark blue jersey into the mix, it was the start of ugly days in Sunrise. And in 2007, when the red was eliminated all together, things got even worse.
But could we see a Red Renaissance in Florida? New coach, new outlook, new uniforms?
A restyled red jersey will become Florida’s primary jersey this season -- the first time the red will be the team’s primary home jersey since the early 2000s when it was relegated to alternate thirds and then dropped during the Reebok restyle in 2007. I was told Alan Cohen hated the red look, and for parts of his ownership, the team only wore that color on weekends.
Yes, please. We’re not sure if it’ll be styled in the same mold as the current home/road jerseys the Panthers wear or if it’ll be more in the mold of the current alternate jersey they wear, which debuted and was throughly made fun of a few years back. In any event, the red is a welcome change in Florida. Just don’t screw it up again, guys.
