Officially, the Colorado Avalanche will retire the No. 21 of legend Peter Forsberg in October, they announced on Thursday morning. The ceremony will be held prior to their home opener on October 8 against the Detroit Red Wings, and Forsberg will become the fourth Avalanche player to have his number retired.

He joins Joe Sakic, Ray Bourque and Patrick Roy in the honor. Peter Stastny, Michel Goulet, Marc Tardif and J.C. Tremblay also had their numbers retired when the team played in Quebec as the Nordiques.
