VIDEO: Joe Sakic Sinks Hole-In-One, Earns $1 Million In Celebrity Golf Event

Darren Clarke’s win at the British Open was the big story in golf this weekend, of course, and the story of the veteran triumph at Royal St. Georges was a memorable one. But it took Clarke four rounds of golf and the ability to beat out an entire field of challengers to earn his $1.45 million this weekend.

For future Hockey Hall of Famer Joe Sakic, it took just one stroke to earn a cool $1 million at the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship on Sunday.

Sakic earned $500,000 for himself and another $500,000 for Lance Armstrong’s Livestrong Foundation by sinking the ace on the 17th hole at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course in Nevada. The AP reports that in the entire 22 year history of the tournament, Sakic’s hole-in-one is only the fourth to fall. It was also the first ace of Sakic’s life.

Sakic finished 11th in the tournament, behind a group of players including former NHLer Jeremy Roenick, who finished in a tie for third place. Roenick took home $35,000 for his finish.
