Jaromir Jagr Turned Down Better Contract Offers To Sign With Philadelphia Flyers

Jaromir Jagr made a rather surprising decision in his return to the NHL. Not necessarily because he decided to return to the NHL after spending the last few seasons in Russia, though, but because he signed with the former rival Philadelphia Flyers after spending the majority of his career with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Surprisingly, it apparently wasn’t about the money.

Jagr told the Associated Press that he turned down better offers from other NHL teams because he liked what the Flyers are “trying to do,” apparently, and not because of the one-year, $3.3 million contract he signed with Philadelphia.

“The Penguins seem like I did something wrong or something bad, and I don’t think I did something bad,” Jagr told the AP. “If they feel like that, I cannot change their minds. I was a free agent, and I had my chance to pick wherever I think is best for me.”

Ah, the joys of free agency!
