The Chicago Blackhawks have locked up one of their stars for the better part of the next decade. TSN reports that the Blackhawks have signed Patrick Sharp to a five-year, $29.5 million contract extension that runs through the 2016-17 season.

Patrick Sharp will be a Blackhawk into his mid-30s, having signed a five-year contract extension with Chicago.

Sharp was already under contract with the Blackhawks for the 2011-12 season. The cap hit associated with Sharp’s contract will be $5.9 million.
Sharp, 29, is one of Chicago's premier scoring threats at forward, often teaming with Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews on a potent line that has helped the Blackhawks contend in the Western Conference. He scored 11 goals and had 11 assists in Chicago's run to the 2010 Stanley Cup, and won the 2011 All-Star Game MVP.
In Sharp’s six seasons in Chicago, he has scored 150 goals; in his five full seasons with the Blackhawks after a trade in the 2005-06 season moved him from Philadelphia to the Windy City, he’s never scored fewer than 20 goals.
