In Which Brian Burke Tells NHL Players To ‘Defecate In Their Chapeaus’

Sports Illustrated polled 161 NHL players recently.

The question: Who is the most overrated player in the NHL?

The winner: Dion Phaneuf, defenseman, Toronto Maple Leafs.

Predictably, Leafs general manager Brian Burke didn’t like this all that much, and after the poll was published on SI’s website on Wednesday, he took to the microphone to tell these players how he feels about their votes.

Via the Toronto Star:

“Yes, players dumb enough to participate in polls designed to crap on fellow NHLPA members are not very bright,” said Leafs GM Brian Burke. “They can all go defecate in their chapeaus. I am thrilled to have both players on my team.

“And by the way? Anyone who wants to tell Dion that in person should fly to Ottawa in about two weeks [for the All-Star Game].”

There are some flaws with the poll. For starters, 161 players isn’t the strongest sample, considering the NHLPA has about 1,000 members. Secondly, of course, NHL players are probably pretty likely to just vote against players they either dislike or hate playing against. Phaneuf could fit into either category.

But you know what? No, this poll is perfect. Anything that gets that kind of reaction from Brian Burke is absolutely perfect. They can all go defecate in their chapeaus. Perfection.
