Brian Elliott was cast away just a year ago by the Colorado Avalanche and Ottawa Senators. He was signed as the backup to Jaroslav Halak with the St. Louis Blues over the summer, and after just a few short months, he's turned that backup gig into an All-Star bid and a new contract.
Brian Elliott Signs 2-Year Contract Extension With St. Louis Blues
Brian Elliott was an afterthought last summer, and now, he’s an All-Star. He’s also on a new contract, given to him by the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday.

The Blues announced late Wednesday that they’ve signed Elliott to a two-year contract extension. General manager Jim Rutherford raved about the signing in the team’s press release.
"Brian came in here and helped stabilize our goaltending and make it one of the top tandems in the NHL," said Blues Executive Vice President and General Manager Doug Armstrong. "Having Brian and Jaro signed through the 13-14 season our goaltending is set. Along with Ben Bishop and Jake Allen in Peoria, our depth at goaltender has never been stronger."
According to Pierre LeBrun of ESPN, the deal has an average annual value of $1.8 million. Elliott will reportedly earn $1.7 million in 2012-13 and $1.9 million in 2013-14. Quite the raise from the $600,000 he’s earning this season. That’s just $75,000 above the league minimum of $525,000.
