Getting star players like Ryan Getzlaf, Bobby Ryan and Corey Perry going again has been what's helped the Ducks earn their wins lately. Sunday night, Anaheim claimed an 8-1-1 record thus far through the month of January after a 3-2 victory over the Avalanche.
Avalanche Vs. Ducks: Anaheim’s Stars Propel Team To 3-2 Win Over Colorado
The Ducks are one of the NHL’s hottest teams and they extend their winning streak to five games after a 3-2 win at home over the Avalanche. Bobby Ryan and Ryan Getzlaf led the way with two points each, along with Jonas HIller holding on for the victory.
The Ducks' got to the scoring early, as Colorado gave up only their second shorthanded goal this season on a Bobby Ryan breakaway before the game was three minutes old. Anaheim was badly outshot 15-2 by the end of the first period, but Jonas Hiller stood strong in net, keeping the Ducks' lead.
Action lulled in the second period, but early in the third, Ryan Getzlaf scored on the power play on a tip-in that was reviewed but ultimately deemed a goal. Shortly after Getzlaf’s marker, Ryan entered the Avs’ zone on yet another breakaway on a textbook play from Getzlaf in the defensive zone and scores for his 24th career multi-point game to put his team up, 3-0.
Regardless of how the Ducks are playing now, though, they have been known to lose leads this season, and with just over five minutes left, the Colorado scored two quick goals from Ryan O`Reilly and Milan Hejduk just 1:37 apart. Nonetheless, It was just a little too late for the Avalanche as Anaheim held on for their fifth straight win, 3-2.
Anaheim is still in 13th, but they are pulling away from the basement of the Western Conference. Colorado is holding on to the eighth seed by just one point over the Minnesota Wild.
