Getty ImagesOvechkin earned his first three-point game of the season Sunday, with his lone goal giving the Caps a 3-2 lead early in the third period after trailing 2-0 early in the first. Malkin also had three points, but his lone goal was the difference maker as it lifted the Penguins to a 4-3 overtime victory.
The goal was Malkin’s league-leading seventh game-winning goal of the season and his ninth during Pittsburgh’s six-game winning streak, seven of which have come in either the third period or overtime.

Getty ImagesAction lulled in the second period, but early in the third, Ryan Getzlaf scored on the power play on a tip-in that was reviewed but ultimately deemed a goal. Shortly after Getzlaf’s marker, Ryan entered the Avs’ zone on yet another breakaway on a textbook play from Getzlaf in the defensive zone and scores for his 24th career multi-point game to put his team up, 3-0.

Eight shots (five Boston, three Flyers) in the five-minute overtime did not yield a game-winner, so it came down to a shootout to decide the spirited affair.
Thomas made 33 saves during regulation and overtime to improve his record to 20-9-0, while Bryzgalov stopped 32 of 37 Boston offerings to drop to 18-10-4.
