The 2012 NHL All-Star Game hasn't been quite as wide-open as goal-heavy All-Star contests in the league's past, with Team Chara and Team Alfredsson tied at 3-3 after the first period, but it's been fun. And the New York Rangers in the game have been the dominant figures so far.
NHL All-Star Game 2012 Score: Team Chara, Team Alfredsson Tied 3-3 After First Period
Marian Gaborik has two goals to lead Team Chara and all players, and pulled out Artem Anisimov's stick-as-shotgun goal celebration to taunt his victim, Rangers teammate Henrik Lundqvist, who gave up three early goals. (Team Alfredsson co-head coach John Tortorella, also the Rangers' head man, joked that he would fine Gaborik for the celebration on the NBC Sports broadcast.)
But a Ranger has recorded a point for Team Alfredsson, too, with Dan Girardi helping get the red-clad squad on the board with a shot that was deflected by Jason Spezza for the team’s first of three goals in the first period.
Steven Stamkos also gave the crowd a highlight to remember, taking a rare All-Star Game penalty shot and using the spinning move he deployed in the All-Star Skills Competition, only to get stoned by Jimmy Howard.
