Daniel Carcillo has been suspended indefinitely and is awaiting a hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety after his hit on Edmonton Oilers defenseman Tom Gilbert Monday night. Carcillo was given a major penalty for the incident and both players were apparently hurt.
Dan Carcillo Suspended Indefinitely, Pending NHL Hearing
On the play, Gilbert and Carcillo were both chasing the puck behind the Oilers’ net. Carcillo hit Gilbert from behind, sending him into the boards face first. Gilbert did not return the game and is expected to miss Tuesday’s game, as well. Carcillo seemed to hurt himself as well, but there has been no official word. Gilbert is listed as having a lower-body injury.
The Oilers ended up scoring two goals during the ensuing power play and beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-3.
Carcillo has been a solid player for the Blackhawks since signing a one-year deal worth $775,000 this season. He has two goals and nine assists, while posting a +10. This is his second suspension this season, though, which could factor into his punishment.
