NHL lockout 2012: NHLPA to meet internally, perhaps put together proposal on economics?

It seems as though NHL lockout talks will stay stagnant unless the NHLPA presents a new proposal to the league on core economic issues. And lucky for everybody, it seems as though the union is prepared to take Tuesday to do just that.

The NHL and NHLPA met for a brief 90-minute bargaining session on Monday night in Manhattan, and after initially agreeing to meet Tuesday, it looks as though the union plans on using the day to discuss matters internally, perhaps with the ultimate goal of nailing down a proposal on the core economic issues that they can present to the league.

That’s the hope, at least. The NHLPA hoped to discuss contracting issues on Monday night, but the league seems unwilling to do so until there is more clarity on the economics such as the revenue split and revenue sharing.

There will likely be little movement from the NHL’s side until the NHLPA presents such a proposal, and whether it’s right or wrong for the NHL to hold a hard line stance there, the union’s willingness to go along with that demand could likely determine the fate of the 2012-13 NHL season.
