NHL players are busy weighing their overseas options now that games through Dec. 14 have been cancelled and talks assisted by the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service are moving slowly, so Sidney Crosby may be a step closer to playing in Switzerland in the near future.

Pittsburgh Penguins star Sidney Crosby may be headed overseas to play hockey, but he’s leaning against playing in Russia and might end up in Switzerland instead.

Crosby will "likely sign with a Swiss club" if he decides to play in Europe, according to a report from the Toronto Sun. Although Russian teams in the KHL will almost certainly throw money in his direction, Bruce Garrioch suggests that the Pittsburgh Penguins' superstar scorer will seek to avoid the longer road trips and more physical play that is part of the game in Russia.
If he limits his options to Swiss teams, only a few teams could even afford to pay the related insurance costs to get him overseas, but the bidding process will not start until Crosby loses faith in the progress of collective bargaining talks. At this point he has tried to remain optimistic that mediation will lead to a new agreement between the NHL and NHLPA.
