Negotiations between the NHL and the player’s union on Friday ended in a recess but could resume over the weekend, according to reports.

Friday night talks between the NHL and the player’s union have stalled.

John Shannon first reported that the two sides will not be talking any further Friday, though they could resume discussions over the weekend.
According to The Sun’s Bruce Garrioch, commissioner Gary Bettman and the NHL have reportedly not been very pleased with the progression of negotiations, and Garrioch stated he “wouldn’t be surprised if Bettman issued an ultimatum.”
Additionally, Chris Johnston of The Canadian Press reported that Bettman is “waiting to hear from (the) union on when talks will resume.”
Friday marked the fourth straight day that the NHL and the NHL Player’s Association met in New York, trying to hammer out meaningful discussions towards a new collective bargaining agreement. The lockout, which has now reached 55 days, has cancelled 327 total regular season games including the league’s premier event, the Winter Classic, which was set to be held at Michigan’s Stadium in Ann Arbor.
