The 2013 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships will get underway in just under two weeks, and teams are now cutting down their squads and naming their final rosters. Canada made their final cuts on Thursday, letting eight players go and cutting the squad down to 23.

The final eight players have been cut, leaving 23 players with roster spots ahead of the tournament in Russia.

The final eight players cut from the squad included forwards Hunter Shinkaruk, Tom Wilson, Mark McNeill and Daniel Catenacci, defensemen Mathew Dumba, Frank Corrado and Ryan Sproul, and goaltender Laurent Brossoit. After the cuts, the final Canadian roster is as follows:
Forwards: Jonathan Huberdeau, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Mark Scheifele, Charles Hudon, Ryan Strome, Brett Ritchie, Jonathan Drouin, Boone Jenner, Ty Rattie, Anthony Camara, Phillip Danault, J.C. Lipon and Nathan MacKinnon
Defensemen: Morgan Rielly, Dougie Hamilton, Scott Harrington, Erik Ouellette, Griffin Reinhart, Tyler Wotherspoon and Ryan Murphy
Goaltenders: Malcolm Subban, Jake Paterson and Jordan Binnington
Canada has been drawn into a group with the United States, Russia, Germany and Slovakia. The winner of that group will gain automatic passage to the semifinal, while the second and third place teams with both reach the quarterfinal. The tournament begins on Dec. 26, and the final will be played on Jan. 5.
