The NHL and the Players Association are set to convene over conference call on Saturday, according to a report from Gary Lawless of the Winnipeg Free Press, and may meet in person in New York on Sunday.

The plan to resume talks comes after the NHL sent a new offer to the players Friday morning, a move that may indicate progress toward the return of games.
The details of the league’s latest offer all move closer to the players’ position, including increasing year-to-year salary variance from 5 percent to 10 percent, and adding a sixth year to the previous five-year offer on contract limits for free agents.
Such a plan indicates talks between the two sides may become more earnest, as the reported “drop-dead” date for full-season cancellation is reportedly just two weeks away, on Jan. 11.
In addition, it appears a date of Jan. 19 has been targeted by the NHL as a start date, according to the Dallas Morning News.
