Jonathan Toews will miss his ninth straight game on Friday night as he continues to recover from a concussion, but he's certainly optimistic about his current status. Toews told the Chicago Sun-Times on Friday morning that he feels good and that he's "a lot better than he thought he'd be."
Jonathan Toews Injury: Blackhawks Captain Skates With Team
“I thought a week and a half ago that I’d be playing right now,” Toews said. “I am back on the ice and I feel good out there and I feel like, ‘Hey I should be playing in a couple of days.’ But no one else can tell me how I feel. It’s up to me to be honest with myself and be smart about it. You learn to play through so many things, but this might be the one thing that might not be an intelligent thing to do.”
Toews has been skating with the team for two days now, although he’s yet to be cleared for contact. That’s the next step, and the hope is that clearance will come sooner than later. Once he’s cleared for contact, the countdown to his return to game action can begin.
