Bruins Vs. Capitals, NHL Playoffs 2012 Game 1: Physical First Period Yields No Score

It was a first period largely dictated by the feeling-out process in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals between the Washington Capitals and Boston Bruins. Both teams traded hits and and tried to control the tempo of the game, but neither was able to put a puck behind the opposing goaltender.

It's 0-0 through 20 minutes of play, but that could change early in the second period as the Caps and B's each settle into the game a bit more. It's evident early on that Boston head coach Claude Julien is getting the matchups he wants on home ice, and the head-to-head battle between Zdeno Chara and Alex Ovechkin is certainly one to watch as the game progresses.

Boston opens the second period with more than two minutes of power play time on the clock thanks to a late-period double minor high-sticking call on Caps forward Jay Beagle.
