The Sharks upset the No. 2-seeded Blues with a double-overtime goal from Martin Havlat. Havlat, who also scored the first goal of the game, took a Ryane Clowe pass and buried a shot past Jaroslav Halak to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven series.
The Blues got two goals in a seven-minute stretch of the third period from Patrik Berglund, but Andrew Desjardins' equalizer late in the period set the stage for nearly a half-hour of scoreless hockey to follow. Boston Bruins 1, Washington Capitals 0 (OT)
Game 1, Eastern Conference Quarterfinals - Bruins lead, 1-0
Tim Thomas and a bruising Boston defense kept the Bruins in their first game of a hotly anticipated Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series with the potent Caps; Thomas only faced 17 shots, but he saved all of them. And that gave Chris Kelly the opportunity to net the game-winner in overtime.

Phoenix Coyotes 3, Chicago Blackhawks 2 (OT)
Game 1, Western Conference Quarterfinals - Coyotes lead, 1-0
The Blackhawks rallied from a 2-1 deficit in the third period, ultimately getting a game-tying goal from Brent Seabrook with just 15 seconds to go in regulation. But the Coyotes roared back and got the game-winner from Martin Hanzal in overtime, taking an early lead on the talented Chicago outfit.

New York Rangers 4, Ottawa Senators 2
Game 1, Eastern Conference Quarterfinals - Rangers lead, 1-0
The Eastern Conference's top seed used a two-goal second period to down the Senators 4-2 at Madison Square Garden. Brad Richards and Marian Gaborik each scored goals for the Rangers, and Henrik Lundqvist had 30 saves in the victory.
