Senators Vs. Rangers, NHL Playoffs 2012 Game 3: Scoreless First Period In Ottawa

The Ottawa Senators had all the momentum in their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series heading into Monday night's Game 3 in Ottawa, but the New York Rangers played them close in the first period, leading to a scoreless 0-0 tie after the first 20 minutes.

The Senators outshot the Rangers, 12-8, and enjoyed a significant physicality advantage, racking up 22 hits to New York's 14. But the Senators also gave away the puck six times, and wasted much of their upper hand with miscues like that. Winger Bobby Butler, playing in his first playoff game, had three shots in just more than five minutes of ice time, and tied with Erik Karlsson for the team lead.

New York's Henrik Lundqvist was solid, saving all 12 shots, and the Rangers killed a power play and a 4-on-3 opportunity. But no Ranger has more than one shot except Brian Boyle, who has two.
