In Game 2 of the Western Conference playoff series between the Chicago Blackhawks and Phoenix Coyotes, Blackhawks rookie Andrew Shaw delivered a nasty hit to the head of Coyotes goalie Mike Smith. Even though Smith closed out the game -- an overtime loss for Phoenix -- he sat out of Monday's practice. He's expected to start Game 3, but he hasn't been confirmed as of yet. It's concerning any time any player who takes a shot to the head isn't able to practice.

The Phoenix Coyotes are expected to start Mike Smith against the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday, but he’s not a lock to play after taking a hit to the head in Game 2.

9 p.m. ET Tuesday -- Game 3, Western Conference Quarterfinals | Series tied, 1-1
National TV: TSN, CNBC, RDS | Local TV: Fox Sports Arizona Plus, CSN Chicago
With or without Smith in net for the Coyotes, Chicago will be favorites in the first game of the series at the United Center. The Blackhawks feel like they have the momentum heading into the game, thanks to their 4-3 overtime win that leveled the series on Sunday. If Smith can't play, Jason LaBarbera will start in his place. He has an unflattering record of 3-9-3, but was unlucky in his starts. His 2.54 GAA and .912 save percentage are very solid for a backup goalie.
