Flyers Vs. Penguins, NHL Playoffs 2012 Game 4: Teams Trade Goals In First, Pittsburgh Leads 4-3

Yep, this series is still ridiculous.

The Philadelphia Flyers and Pittsburgh Penguins scored seven goals in the first period of Game 4 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series, and both teams blew leads multiple times. Typically, this is the part of the first period recap where we'd go over every goal ... but, well, we don't want to be here all night, now.

So we'll be succinct: Philadelphia scored first and the teams traded goals back and forth before the score reached 2-2. Jakub Voracek then gave Philadelphia a 3-2 lead before Pittsburgh got back-to-back goals from Evgeni Malkin and Jordan Staal. Here's Staal's goal that gave the Penguins the lead; it's clear that the Flyers defense doesn't really know how to play defense at this point:

As you’d expect, the goaltending and defense have been completely nonexistent. The teams scored those seven goals on 26 shots in the period, and about half of those goals actually hit the goalies on their way into the net.
