Devils Vs. Panthers, NHL Playoffs 2012 Game 4: Scoreless After First Period

Goalies Martin Brodeur and Scott Clemmensen stopped 10 shots apiece as the No. 3 seed Florida Panthers and No. 6 seed New Jersey Devils are scoreless entering the first intermission of Game 4 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series, which the Panthers lead 2-1.

Brodeur has bounced back from his uncharacteristically shaky performance on Tuesday, where he allowed three goals on 12 shots and was relieved by Johan Hedberg. Clemmensen, who replaced Jose Theodore six minutes into Game 3, has now stopped all 29 shots he's faced in the playoffs.

The Panthers are playing without defenseman Jason Garrison, who was a late scratch with a "lower body injury." Garrison has a goal and an assist, is -1 for the series and is averaging more than 22 minutes of ice time per game in the first three games of the first-round matchup with the Devils. Garrison's absence was felt on the Panthers' lone power play of the first period.

After blowing a three-goal lead the other night, the Devils have wanted to establish a physical presence. Through 20 minutes, the Devils are out-hitting the Panthers, 17-3.
