The Calder Memorial Trophy is the NHL’s version of the Rookie of the Year award. Each year, the trophy is awarded to “the player selected as the most proficient in his first year of competition in the National Hockey League.”
NHL Names 2012 Calder Trophy Finalists: Gabriel Landeskog, Adam Henrique, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
The three finalists for the Calder Memorial Trophy have been named. Who will take home the NHL’s version of the Rookie of the Year award?

The finalists for the award have been officially announced, according to an NHL press release Friday. The three young players up for the award are New Jersey Devils center Adam Henrique, Colorado Avalanche left wing Gabriel Landeskog and Edmonton Oilers center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins.
All three finalists had exemplary years, of course. Henrique picked up 51 points in the season and led all rookies with 35 assists. Landeskog tied for the lead amongst all rookies with 52 points and his 22 goals were second-most for a rookie. Nugent-Hopkins was the other rookie to rack up 52 points, despite playing in just 62 games. He scored 18 goals and picked up three multi-goal games, as well as having five assists in a game.
The ultimate winner of the award will be announced on June 20, at the 2012 NHL Awards show in Las Vegas.
