Blues Vs. Sharks, NHL Playoffs 2012 Game 5: Joe Thornton Gives San Jose Lead

The San Jose Sharks have had the short end of the stick for much of their Western Conference Quarterfinals series. Finally, late in the second period of Game 5, they broke through against the St. Louis Blues, and are now in position to stay alive in the series.

Joe Thornton put in his second goal of the 2012 NHL Playoffs in the final minute of the second period to give the Sharks a 1-0 lead on St. Louis -- San Jose's' first lead in the series since winning Game 1 in overtime. The goal was assisted by Daniel Winnik and Torrey Mitchell.

Antti Niemi has been perfect on the night, turning back all 15 shots he has faced, and Brian Elliott has been similarly excellent for St. Louis, with 14 saves.
