NHL Playoff Schedule 2012: Who Will Washington Capitals Play In Round 2?

The Washington Capitals beat the Boston Bruins in Game 7 on Wednesday night, and while that outcome doesn’t definitively determine anything just yet when it comes to second-round playoff matchups in the NHL’s Eastern Conference, it does clear things up at least a little bit.

The seventh-seeded Caps and the fifth-seeded Philadelphia Flyers are the only teams that have advanced to the second round thus far. As far as those second-round matchups go, everything is contingent on the two remaining Game 7’s on Thursday night: the Rangers vs. the Senators and the Devils vs. the Panthers.

A win by the top-seeded New York Rangers, regardless of the outcome between No. 3 Florida and No. 6 New Jersey, means the Caps should prepare for a trip to Madison Square Garden. The Flyers will then play the winner of New Jersey and Florida.

If the eighth-seeded Senators and Devils are victorious on Thursday, Ottawa will face the Flyers and New Jersey will host Washington. Finally, if the Senators and Panthers win their Game 7’s, the Caps will play Philadelphia and Ottawa will play Florida.
