Zdeno Chara of the Boston Bruins, Erik Karlsson of the Ottawa Senators and Shea Weber of the Nashville Predators have been named as finalists for the James Norris Memorial Trophy, which is awarded each NHL season to the defenseman who demonstrates the best all-around ability at the position.

Members of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association submitted ballots at the conclusion of the NHL regular season, and the top three vote-getters were named as finalists. The Norris Trophy will be handed out on June 20 in Las Vegas at the league’s annual award show.

Chara's been a finalist for the Norris four times now in the last five years. He won the award in 2009, finished second in 2004 and finished third in 2008 and 2011. Karlsson is a first-time nominee in just his second NHL season, led to the accomplishment by his league-leading 78 points for a defenseman. Weber finished second to Nicklas Lidstrom in Norris voting in 2011. It's his second-ever Norris nomination.
