Playoff Fate? Capitals AHL Affiliate Also Wins Game 2:57 Into Overtime

As you're likely aware, the Capitals kept their season alive with an overtime win over the Bruins in Game 7. Their AHL affiliate, the Hershey Bears, did the same thing Wednesday night.

No, really. The exact same thing.

Joel Ward's goal at the 2:57 mark beat Tim Thomas and sent the Capitals to the second round.

Meanwhile, at the Giant Center in Hershey, Pa., Ryan Potulny scored in overtime against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, propelling the Bears to a 4-3 win. It cut the Baby Pens' 2-0 series lead in half and forced a Game 4 in the best-of-five Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series.

Potulny’s goal? Scored at the 2:57 mark of overtime.

That’s two teams in the same organization staving off elimination by scoring an overtime goal at the exact same point in their games, which were being played at the same time. The winning goal entered the net in Hershey at 9:50 p.m. ET, while the winning goal in Boston crossed the goal line at 10:23 p.m. ET.
