Flyers Vs. Devils, Game 1 Score: Claude Giroux Goal Gives Philly 3-2 Lead

After a slow start, the Philadelphia Flyers have settled in, and entering the third period, they've worked a 1-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead over the New Jersey Devils. Philadelphia actually took a 2-1 lead on two quick goals from Danny Briere and James van Riemsdyk about midway through the second period.

Briere's goal was a breakaway off a beautiful pass from Jakub Voracek. van Riemsdyk's goal? Kinda sorta Martin Brodeur's fault.

New Jersey tied the score about five minutes later when a Travis Zajac shot just barely trickled through the pads of Ilya Bryzgalov and across the goal line, and that's how the teams entered the second intermission. But in the third period, the Flyers have completely controlled the play. They've drawn penalties with their tenacious forecheck, and one of those penalties turned into a Claude Giroux goal. What a goal it was.

Brodeur has been solid in Game 1, but there might not be a goaltender in the league that can stop a shot with as much zip on it as Giroux's had. The assist from Kimmo Timonen put the puck right in Giroux's wheelhouse, and he couldn't have taken a better shot.
