Minnesota Wild defenseman Nate Prosser has been suspended one game for his head-butt on Chicago Blackhawks forward Jamal Mayers Thursday evening. The NHL's department of player safety made the announcement late Friday afternoon.

Here's what Brendan Shanahan, the league's chief of player safety, had to say about the suspension:

Prosser was ejected from the game and picked up a major penalty on the play, which occurred at the 18:19 mark of the first period. It’s a pretty obvious head butt, clearly against the rules, and for it Prosser will forfeit $3,864.86. He will miss the final game of Minnesota’s season on Saturday and could potentially head to the AHL’s Houston Aeros following the suspension.

Mayers remained in the game following the head-butt. He scored a goal before the incident and took three penalties later in the game.
